Management

The management team, supported by the Board, is responsible for implementing business strategy, business development, operations, financial reporting, capital structure and supervising the ship management of our vessels.

GSL's management team has significant breadth and depth of experience within the shipping industry including within liner shipping, ship finance and ship management.

Mr. Youroukos has been involved in Shipping since 1993, when he joined a major Greek shipowning company and worked in various departments. He founded Technomar, an internationally recognized ship management company, in 1994, where he has served as Managing Director. With over 25 years of experience in the sector, he has negotiated and executed over 270 secondhand and newbuilding vessel transactions, creating partnerships with a number of major shipping banks resulting in co-investment of approximately $230 million in workout transactions. He has also partnered with Private Equity firms to jointly invest in container and dry bulk vessels. Mr. Youroukos serves as the Chairman of the Hellenic Advisory Committee of International classification society, RINA and holds a Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering from University College London and a Master in Engineering from Brunel University.
Mr. Lister has been our Chief Executive Officer since March 31, 2024. Previously, he was Chief Commercial Officer from September 2007, and, from April 2017 until the merger with Poseidon Containers in November 2018, was also our Chief Financial Officer. Since 2019, Mr. Lister has led our ESG initiatives to ensure close alignment of our commercial and ESG strategies. From 2005 until 2007, Mr. Lister was a Senior Vice President at DVB Bank. Before that, from 2004 to 2005, he worked for a large German KG financier and ship owning group, as Director of Business Development. From 1991 to 2002, Mr. Lister worked in a number of managerial, strategic and operational roles for liner shipping companies and their agents. Mr. Lister graduated from Durham University and holds an MBA from INSEAD.
Mr. Psaropoulos became our Chief Financial Officer in November 2018. He has over 12 years of experience in finance in the shipping sector. He has served as Chief Financial Officer of Poseidon Containers and Technomar, which he joined in 2011, participating in a number of successful distressed assets acquisitions. Prior to Poseidon, he was financial controller in Dolphin Capital, an AIM listed real estate development fund. He has also worked as an external auditor with PricewaterhouseCoopers, covering shipping and oil & gas industries. Mr. Psaropoulos holds a Master in Economics with specialization in Finance and Investments, from the Athens University of Economics and Business. He has also participated in the Program for Leadership Development (PLDA) of Harvard Business School.
Ms. Danezi has been our Company Secretary since November 2018. Ms. Danezi is also Head of the Legal Team at our technical manager, Technomar Shipping, Inc. - where she has worked since 2002 - with expertise spanning sale & purchase transactions, insurance claims, and legal dispute resolution. From 1992 to 2002 Ms. Danezi worked as the Insurance and Claims executive for Marmaras Navigation Ltd, an owner and operator of dry bulk vessels. Ms. Danezi obtained her diploma in law from Athens University and her LLM Master’s Degree, specializing in Maritime Law, from the University of Southampton.
Mr. Giannopoulos has been our Head of Internal Audit since November 2018. From 2015 until 2018, Mr. Giannopoulos was Financial Controller at our technical manager, Technomar Shipping, Inc. Prior to joining Technomar, from 2006 until 2015, Mr. Giannopoulos was Financial Controller in charge of the South American logistics arm of Navios – a group of shipping companies listed on the New York Stock Exchange. From 2006 to 2010 Mr. Giannopoulos worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers as a senior external auditor covering the shipping, oil and gas industries. Mr. Giannopoulos is a graduate of Maritime Studies from the University of Piraeus.
